In the desire to fulfill the dreams of their family members, the students of UP, who have returned after getting medical education from abroad, are disappointed even after passing the FMGE exam. The reason for this disappointment is the ‘tortoise move’ of the Uttar Pradesh Medical Council. Medical college has not been allotted to them after counseling for internship, while in most of the other states this process has been completed and internship has started. Students will plead with CM Yogi Adityanath in the Janata Darbar regarding this problem. (Medical Students Of UP)
After studying abroad and passing the FMGE exam, these students, who are waiting for instructions from the Uttar Pradesh Medical Council, say that they are very upset due to non-commencement of internship. They say that after studying abroad, it was expected that soon he would be able to start preparing to practice in his country, whereas in Uttar Pradesh, there is no seriousness about this process.
After a long wait of 8 months after clearing FMGE in June 2022, medical colleges were allotted for internship after counseling in February 2023, which is a very slow process compared to other states. (Medical Students Of UP)
Recently, the students who passed the FMGE exam of January 2023 have not yet been allotted medical colleges for internship, while in other states medical colleges have been allotted to the students after completing all the process.
These students say that in all the states of India, counseling is done within 2-3 months of passing the exam, but in Uttar Pradesh it is done after 7-8 months. At present, no information has been given on the website regarding the counseling of the new batch from UPMC, nor has any merit list been issued. (Medical Students Of UP)
Students say that on getting information in UPMC, it is said that due to verification of the documents given for provisional registration, it takes so much time, while in other states of India, the passing certificate of NBE or only the score card of the examination is accepted. In Other states, internship is started and provisional registration is given during internship, which saves the time of the students.
What is MCI FMGE Exam?
The Medical Council of India (MCI) Foreign Medical Graduate Examination or more commonly referred to as FMGE is a medical licensing examination. It is a screening test which came into being through Screening Test Regulations, 2002.
Conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE), FMGE is a mandatory examination required to be undertaken by all Indian citizens or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders who have pursued their medical education abroad and plan to practice in India by obtaining a provisional or permanent registration with Medical Council of India (MCI) or any State Medical Council.
However, candidates who have undertaken their undergraduate medical qualification from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and New Zealand are not required to appear for their FMGE test to practice in India provided they are eligible to enroll as a medical practitioner in the respective country. (Medical Students Of UP)
In order to appear for FMGE, candidates should be holding the provisional pass certificate/degree certificate of primary medical qualification and the certificate of eligibility (if required). Those who qualify in the exam obtain a screening test pass certificate which the NBEMS awards once the biometric/Face ID and relevant documents verification has been completed.
The Medical Council of India (MCI) Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) was established in 2002. Hence, candidates who have qualified their medical studies on or before March 15, 2002, are not required to appear for the licensing examination (MCI FMGE). (Medical Students Of UP)
Candidates are hereby reminded that MCI FMGE is not an entrance test but a licensing examination that allows Indian nationals who have pursued medical studies abroad to register with MCI and practice in India. NBE not only conducts the test but also publishes the result and forwards it to the Medical Council of India & all State Medical Councils.
